actions or words

actions may speak louder than words
but unexplained actions are often
too vague to communicate meaning
both are needed to express ones heart

the gospel of Christ may be lived by your life
but without words to explain
those who see will come no further than wonder
of what is being said

use actions. love, forgive, rebuke, direct
but if your actions are only
"to show God's love"
and your words do not clarify

i fear your actions will be lost
in wonder and thought and need
of people who do not understand
of people who look but will never see

because though you may've planted a seed
the seed was not given the water it needs
the water of the Word of God
which is the only power of salvation

The Mighty Magnet

Our Associate Pastor shared this quote with me today (he heads up evangelism training at our church):

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.~John 12:32

Come, ye workers, be encouraged. You fear that you cannot draw a congregation. Try the preaching of a crucified, risen, and ascended Savior; for this is the greatest "draw" that was ever yet manifested among men. What drew you to Christ but Christ? What draws you to Him now but His own blessed self? If you have been drawn to religion by anything else, you will soon be drawn away from it; but Jesus has held you and will hold you even to the end. Why, then, doubt His power to draw other? Go with the name of Jesus to those who have hitherto been stubborn and see if it does not draw them.~C. H. Spurgeon
