reading again
i'm reading again. well, I actually was reading "The Case for a Creator" by Lee Strobel, but, honestly, I didn't really like the book. I plan to finish it someday, and it does have a lot of useful and interesting information in it. Although, I don't like his writing style...the journalistic "I went to this guy's house and asked him these questions...here's our conversation." I don't really like that type of writing style...actually this is the only book I've read like that (that I can think of), so that's a blanket statement to say I don't like that style of writing when I've only read half of one book that is that style. Nevertheless I didn't like the style of the book. Nor did I like the specific content. Strobel goes through so much trouble to write this potentially powerful book but he didn't go far enough. He attempts to prove that there must be a God because the Big Bang couldn't have happened by itself, and through interviews he attempts to prove that God caused the Big Bang. How sad.
His view of God is smaller than the true God of the Bible. (Not saying I have a perfect view of God, I don't.) The God of the Bible created the heavens and the earth in 6 LITERAL days. See Exodus 20:11. God is powerful. He didn't need nor did He take millions or billions of years to create what we see today. A good question to ask is, why did God take 6 days? He could have made the earth in 6 nanoseconds if He wanted to. (ask me if you want to know what I think about why God took 6 days.)
I'm hoping that in the second half of the book Strobel goes on to prove that the earth is as old as the Bible says it is (viz. about 6,000 years).
Anyway, the reason I started this post was to put this quote in here. I'm reading "The Problem of Pain" by C. S. Lewis. On page 34 he writes, "We are not metaphorically but in very truth, a Divine work of art, something that God is making, and therefore something with which He will not be satisfied until it has a certain character."
